Rotterdam

Houthaven

Houthaven

In the place where cargo ships unloaded their logs a century ago, an island district is emerging. A neighborhood with narrow streets, plenty of green spaces, and canals weaving between rows of houses. Much of it is already inhabited. At the same time, it serves as an exhibition of architectural styles and a showcase of the most advanced urban planning today.

IJburg

IJburg

The city's newest residential district is situated on artificial islands in the former harbour mouth, close to the Eastern Docklands. In the future it will be a district with 45.000 inhabitans. IJburg provides fascinating walks. We can walk or make a bicycle tour from the city centre, which runs via 10 really amazing bridges. More >>

South Axis

South Axis

The South Axis of Amsterdam has a lot to offer. A grandeur, hardly fitting in the Dutch tradition. Top architecture by Dutch and many foreign architects. More >>

Bijlmermeer & Bullewijk

Bijlmermeer & Bullewijk

Rather silently, the Bijlmermeer is being transformed into a prime neighbourhood. For true Bijlmer devotees, the Bijlmer had always been just that: a park landscape without cars, with comfortable homes, views to I don't know where, etc. But many people preferred low-rise anyway, and vacancy was the result. Those low-rise buildings have come now, at a time when beautiful architecture is no longer a dirty word.

NDSM Wharf

NDSM Wharf

NDSM site In the 1970s, the shipbuilding industry disappeared from the northern IJ shore in Amsterdam, leaving behind an industrial landscape—desolate yet marked by the beauty of abandoned quays and warehouses. On the 32-hectare terrain of the NDSM shipyard, a district is now emerging with a rare mix of living, working, recreation, and events. Old warehouses, now designated as national monuments, will be preserved.

Amsterdam New-West

Amsterdam New-West

Nieuw-West, dull and monotonous? Well, then you're in for a surprise. Varied urban landscapes, charming green spaces, a famous chapter in architectural history, and cutting-edge urban planning with striking architecture—all intertwined. More >>

Eastern Docklands

Eastern Docklands

The Amsterdam's Eastern Docklands have been developed since the seventies from a harbour site to a highly popular residential area with superb and diverse architecture. Architecture tourists and everybody else enjoy the site. During our walk we visit the hot spots of the area: the monumental architecture of the KNSM-eiland, the remarkable dwellings, world class footbridges and canals of the Java-eiland, the 'Gold Coast' on Borneo.
