Guided Tours Amsterdam
Amsterdam School

Amsterdam School

Mentioning Amsterdam South the top district of Amsterdam is nothing eccentric. Amsterdam is famous because of its high level of housing. Finest example is to be seen in Amsterdam South and surroundings. The district is mainly filled with expressionist Amsterdam School architecture of the twenties.

Old City

Old City

Amsterdam was in the 17th century a world power in itself, and the unbelievable riches at that time resulted in a marvellous and large old city centre with superb architecture, mainly from the 17th to the 19th century, very well preserved, not bombed in World War II. A walk runs through the medieval centre, parts of the old city wall, along the famous canals, China town, and the former Jewish district.

Art nouveau

Art nouveau

No art nouveau in Amsterdam? This tour breaks with that image. All in all, there is a lot of art nouveau in Amsterdam. That makes sense, too. Between 1895 and 1905, the years of this architectural style, a lot of building went on in Amsterdam. And art nouveau was widely represented among them.

Canal Ring

Canal Ring

400 years ago, the ring of canals was the most impressive urban extension in the world. There are untold numbers of canal houses, you don't know where to look. And usually you hardly ever do, you just undergo the atmosphere of the canals, and that's it. This tour puts an end to that.

De Baarsjes (West)

De Baarsjes (West)

Architect Boeken was delighted with the new urban extension around Mercatorplein in 1927. Even better than Plan Zuid, he thought. The Amsterdam School-style buildings, streets and street walls are subordinate to the overall picture. What prevails is the overall impression: the arrangement, the rhythm, the colour, the balance...

Go West

Go West

One or the finest trips in Amsterdam runs through the western islands, the Westerdokseiland and district Westerpark with among others the Westergasfabriek and the Spaarndammerbuurt. An area west of the central station. No massive tourist flow there, but in beauty and variation hardly to exceed. A mix also of modern and historical. We can do it via a walking or bicycle trip.

Jordaan

Jordaan

Since the seventies the 'Jordaan' has developed from a deteriorated working class area to a place to live in demand, where middleclass people, artists and students found a most pleasant place to live. They meet each other in many pleasant restaurants, cafés and shops. Best option is to start around Central Station. Then the tour runs via the world famous Canal Ring, at least as interesting as the Jordaan itself.

Amsterdam-North

Amsterdam-North

Fragments of Amsterdam North are among the most picturesque in Amsterdam: the centuries-old Nieuwendammerdijk and Schellingwouderdijk. Behind the dike is an atmospheric Amsterdam School garden village. And further along, the idyllic early 20th-century garden villages of Disteldorp and Vogeldorp.

Historical Architecture Tours

In terms of historical architecture, the 17th-century urban expansion in particular is world-famous. Another must-see for the architecture lover is the famous expressionist “Amsterdam School” architecture. Entire neighbourhoods were built with it: in Amsterda-South, -West,  -North. While other countries mainly talked about expressionism, Amsterdam did. Other highlights are art nouveau. and the old dike-houses of Amsterdam-North, combined with 20th century expressionist architecture.
