Amsterdam metropolis

Amsterdam is perhaps a large village, but has certainly characteristics of a metropolis as well. Determinative for that are the innumerable newcomers from abroad, who brought since the 16th century their knowledge and capacities to the city and who even formed in the 17th century the majority of the population.
The newcomers made the city great and large: Amsterdam became the third largest city of Europe. Many, many refugees found in Amsterdam a place where they were welcome and could live in peace.
The walk runs along places that remind us of the influence of Jews, Chinese, Armenians, Surinamese, Belgians, Germans.
